the new first floor volume to the front of the existing dwelling contains a parents zone of master bedroom, en suite and study. each space is delineated by a sliding wall, allowing these spaces and their varying functions to either act as one or autonomously.
a fine fixed steel screen spans the full extent of the street frontage, filtering views from street level in winter when the street tree is bare and providing sun shading in summer. the full height screen allows the glazed facade to be fully operable, allowing maximum air through these spaces.
stage 02 of design works for this existing residence comprises of two separate first floor volumes.
the design of the first storey element to the front of the dwelling has been driven by the seasonal effects of a large oak street tree. the tree will provide privacy and shade to the new glazed first floor volume, while a fine steel screen will help control views into the spaces in winter when the tree is bare.

this series of artworks developed for stage 01 of works to the davies street residence uses varying media to explore white, and the varied textures and shadows this can create, much like the alterations to the dwelling.
stage 01 of works to this residence was based on the desire to surround and open up the existing house to the landscape. an inner courtyard bounded by sliding doors promotes immediate access outdoors and allows fresh air to permeate the inner spaces.
a large picture window to the rear of the living space projects over the rear garden, strengthening this connection to the landscape.
